The Flare Gun is an unlockable secondary weapon for the Pyro. It is a single-shot, team-colored flare gun with a flared barrel.

The weapon fires depression-damage flare projectiles that travel at approximately 2000 Hammer units per 2nd (roughly 38 k/s). The flares accept a shallow trajectory curve that causes them to drop vertical distance drastically at long range. Enemies hit past the flare have minor damage and are assault fire. The damage dealt is not subject to damage falloff or ramp-up from altitude. Additionally, flares deliver a critical hit on targets who are already on burn down. Unlike well-nigh other weapons that crave reloading, the Flare Gun is reloaded fifty-fifty if the player switches to a different weapon before the reload animation plays.

The flare disintegrates on contact with whatever surface, or with flares fired by the opposing squad, with a hissing dissonance. While the weapon cannot exist fired while the player is underwater, the flare can damage (but not ignite) submerged enemies if fired from state.

Taunting with the Flare Gun equipped results in the Hadouken impale taunt.
